Today, KB Books is celebrating its 1st year of being in business and what an interesting year it has been. Looking back over the past year, I am amazed by this journey that I started. On this day exactly one year ago, I decided to make my brand official and launched my official website. Although I thought I had an idea of what I was venturing into, I will admit that I was not as prepared as I thought I was for the adventurous road ahead. If you would like to continue this journey down memory lane with me, please continue with this reading. I will not keep you long...promise. I have a short attention span too lol.
I FELT LIKE GIVING UP…A LOT!!
Although starting a new business venture can be exciting, it can also become overwhelming. Being a business owner is hard work; especially, if you are a sole proprietorship and all the hats fall on you. In my business I am the author (main title), illustrator, marketing manager, social media manager, and brand ambassador just to name a few. I wear many different types of hats and at one point in time, wearing all those hats became exhausting and overwhelming. There were a few times that I truly wanted to give up! However, I discovered a technique that works for me and took away much of the overwhelming feelings. I will not divulge in my technique but let’s just say it has much to do with utilizing my own personal planner…practicing what I sell!
I DETERMINE THE DEFINITION OF SUCCESS
One thing that I learned in this business venture is that success is subjective. One person’s story of success may not equate to another person’s story of success. I compared myself quite often to others within the writing community and I found myself becoming discouraged knowing that I wasn’t quite measuring up to their levels of success. So, I took some time off from my business. Yep, that’s right. I just stop everything that I was doing. This meant little sales were being made because I was not campaigning or advertising my brand. I wasn’t creating any new content. However, this was ok. I needed this time off to regroup and discover my new technique. During this time, I decided that I am the one who determines whether I am a success or not. I would no longer compare myself to other people within the writing community because we are all at different levels and any comparison wouldn’t be a fair one. I am indeed a success. I set out with a specific goal for the year and guess what? I reached and exceeded that goal. This alone makes me a success!
LOOKING FORWARD TO WHAT’S TO COME
I have a renewed feeling of excitement for the next year. It’s a different type of excitement because I have gained many experiences through this year and I am more prepared for what may come my way. I want to thank everyone who has been apart of my journey and supported me along the way. Your support has not gone unnoticed and it’s truly appreciated. I look forward sharing many more experiences with you all in my future endeavors. Until next time, be blessed!
