The journey to becoming a self-published (indie) author started years ago for me. I can’t exactly pinpoint the date, but writing and publishing a book is something that I had wanted to do for the longest. I was always amazed at my uncle, who is a seasoned writer and author as well. To see his works available online was amazing to me. I actually had two different books on my parent’s old computer that I had begun to write; however, the computer crashed and I lost all the work. That was my first lesson learned in writing and publishing a book…always have your worked saved in a backup form. I wasn’t too devastated at the time, because I honestly didn’t really think I would ever make the dream of writing and publishing any type of content come true. However, I now wish I had those manuscripts because I did put much time and energy into each one. Despite that setback, my dream of being a published author actually came into fruition…many years later.
"I noticed a change starting within me"
The first step to becoming an indie author was a mental one. I had to decided if I was really going to do it, and if so, make tangible steps towards the goal. I begin to read blogs and watch videos on the principals of manifestation. I begin to notice how all the principals that I was learning (and there were many) actually aligned with my daily biblical readings. So I began to practice what I was reading (and viewing) and I notice a change starting within me. There was a fire lit within and all of sudden I felt that I was able to accomplish my goal of becoming an indie author, as well as any other goal that I set out to accomplish.
My next step was to take a class on writing and becoming an indie author. Not many in my immediately family knew that I was doing this. I had mentioned to my twin brothers about a journal that I had wanted to do but left it at that. I took plenty of notes and made a how-to-do list and everything. I later learn that everything, well not everything, I learned in class was pretty much available for free online through blogs and YouTube videos. Either way, I am thankful for that class.
So then I opened up my very old laptop and began to create different designs of my book cover and manuscript. I played around with design and layout for a few days until I finally got something that I was satisfying to me (I ended up doing several revisions after publications because mistakes were made).

So I had my book cover and manuscript. All that was left was for me to get it uploaded and published. The process was fairly simple, especially if you do your research beforehand. Within in a week of completing my cover and manuscript, my journal was published on Amazon! How exciting that was for me. I seriously couldn’t believe that I had created and published my own book. I was running on excitement. To be honest, I’m still running on excitement as I am still at the beginning of my journey and I find what I do be very enjoyable.
There is so much more that goes into becoming an indie author and I will continue to write about the progress. This writing was only about how I got started. However, once you are started, there is much more that you have to do if you are serious about it and want to be a success. Look forward to those writings as I progress as an indie author. I also encourage you to look into the principals of manifestation if you find yourself stuck in a situation and don’t know how to move forward.
Thank you reading! God bless!
